There are several active jewelry makers, both private and larger companies. Most of the jewelry is sold locally to tourists and is of a low grade. Unclean production, stones that don't fit the set, boring designs and lack of workmanship are some of the problems we face. Also there seems to be a originality-problem, since most jewelers copy one-another and so you get jewelry pieces that all look the same. Kinda boring. There are a few more dedicated designers and jewelers and their work is sold in more upper-class stores locally, but their numbers are few. Most good amber jewelry is produced outside and sold outside with only the stone being of Dominican origin. It's sad, but there is a true lack in original, dedicated jewelry work here.

sorry for the delay there/ thats a shame to hear usually mexico copies italy and they copy mexico and everyone tries to hide the best until it is out of the ocuntry and the thailand gets it and makes it lighter/ oh well .where u are they need one good guy who can copy anything and then teach several others with some porduction work/ before most all was hand built .casting was more because no one had the equipment to do it/ save for single molds /metal even/ one pour after another/ but as far as canisters and casting 20 pieces or more /no way/ anyway what u are saying is that its not developed out / how about carvers who can work with the amber/ or is that the same way? would we go as far as to say there is not the talent artistic like in mexico? or its there but not in action and needs to be taught? too bad was looking forward to hearing there were hundreds of handi craft workers who needed work/

Sorry to disappoint you, but we have indeed a lack of good artists and artisans here. Most good workers are immigrants from China or Spain. We have picked the best we could find thus far and are content with their work, but they're only capable of producing a minimum due to lack of time. We're okay with it since the rarity of Blue Amber prohibits mass-production anyway.
